5 Medicine Exercises That Are Excellent Abdominal Workouts

Published by Guest Author under Uncategorized

Medicine balls are a creative (and cheap) way to add resistance to your weight loss workout when no other weights are available.

The following abdominal workouts target one or two specific muscles by working those particular muscles. As you increase the intensity of your abdominal workouts, circuit training causes you to challenge your strength while pushing your body aerobically. You should be progress through the workout and keep your heart rate up. This allows you to reap the same benefits as the guy who mindlessly logs all those miles on the treadmill. Also, fewer rest periods help your muscles grow.

These medicine ball exercises are excellent abdominal workouts. Complete each of the following fat burning workouts one after the other, with approximately 10 seconds of rest between each.

Use these guidelines before you start a medicine ball routine that will count as your fat burning workouts.

• Medicine ball exercises, as with other forms of power training, should be completed when you are fresh before heavy aerobic or anaerobic training if completed in the same day.
• Focus on speed of movement but not at the sacrifice of technique.
• Do not choose a ball that is so heavy it slows the movement of the exercise down.
• If you don’t own a medicine ball, consider starting with a basketball or soccer ball.

Medicine Ball Exercises:

Medicine Ball Obliques
1. Starting Position: Lie on your back and raise your legs with your knees bent.
2. Holding a medicine ball between your knees rotate your legs to the side and then return to the starting position. Repeat to the other side.

Chops
1. Start with ball overhead at arms length
2. Stop the ball when its between your feet
3. Repeat

Slams
1. Stand with feet parallel and knees slightly bent.
2. Pull medicine ball back behind head and forcefully throw ball down on the ground as hard as possible.
3. Catch the ball on the bounce from the ground and repeat according to prescribed repetitions.

Lunges
1. Begin by standing with the medicine ball held at your waist (approximately at belly button height).
2. Take a step forward with one leg, lowering yourself until the top of your leg is parallel to the floor. Make sure that your knee does not extend past your toes to avoid injury.
3. Either return to the starting position and repeat the movement with the opposite leg, or perform a “walking” lunge by continuing forward by alternating legs and “walking” across the floor.

Standing/Seated Triceps Extension
1. Begin by standing (or sitting) in an upright position.
2. Using both hands, hold the ball behind your head.
3. In a controlled motion, extend your arms upward, keeping your upper arms stationary.
4. Flex your triceps for a count of one before lowering the medicine ball back to the starting position.

Complete your weight loss workout by stretching for 10 minutes. Ensure you stretch the muscles around your shoulders, hamstrings & quads.

Duodenal Switch Surgery As A Weight Loss Option

Published by Guest Author under Uncategorized

Weight loss surgery options are available to those who are significantly overweight. If you find that you are obese and simply cannot lose the weight with a standard diet and exercise program, then it may be time to consider your options. There are many surgeries that are now available, such as the Duodenal Switch surgery = KEYWORD or the Lap Band procedure. However, before you consider the DS, you absolutely need to know what the disadvantages are.

The Duodenal Switch, or DS, changes how your stomach absorbs foods and fat. The goal is for the stomach pouch to be smaller, roughly one-third to one-fifth its size, and for the intestines to be changed. The small intestine is rerouted so that it is smaller and connects with the large intestine in a different manner. The large intestine is where the food is rerouted and the bile will travel along the small intestine.

  • invasive procedure
  • reroutes food in a different manner than through the large and small intestines
  • DS surgery would require a major operation in order to be reversed

There are some disadvantages to this form of weight loss option = KEYWORD3, as opposed to the Lap Band weight loss surgery, which is less invasive. A small hole is cut in the abdomen and a scope is inserted to place a gastric Lap Band into place along the upper portion of the stomach. The Lap Band is then tightened to make a small pouch. The DS operation requires a larger incision and a more invasive procedure to the stomach and the intestines. This means that there is a longer hospital stay and a longer recovery time.

You must also consider the fact that the Lap Band weight loss surgery = KEYWORD2 is reversible, whereas the DS surgery would require a major operation in order to be reversed. That means an even longer time spent under the surgeon’s knife and a longer stay in the hospital. Many people have had severe reactions to the surgery and find themselves constantly at the doctor’s office to remove blockages.

If the disadvantages outweigh the positive outcome of the Duodenal Switch, then it is very important that you listen to your doctor and nutritionist carefully. This is not a procedure that is easily reversible. Gather the information about the surgery and carefully review the advantages and the disadvantages. After you have reviewed the information and statistics you may decide that the gastric Lap Band is the weight loss option that is best for your situation. The choice is entirely up to you.

Teen Weight Loss Programs Online

Published by Guest Author under Uncategorized

Are you looking for teen weight loss programs struggling with obesity that is both healthy and simple? The following 5 tips will help them lose weight in a manner that’s not only healthy, but also sustained.

1. Make it a habit, not a “diet”

Crash diets don’t work. Period. In fact, people who lose a lot of weight quickly tend to not only gain it back just as fast, but also add a bit extra. Besides the obvious frustration of failure, this weight gain/loss yo yo effect is not good for the heart.

So, the first step to teen weight loss programs should be committing to a lifelong habit of healthy habits and a gradual weight loss that doesn’t exceed 1 to 2 pounds each week.

2. Cut Down on Sugary Drinks

Soda and sugary juices are killers for a young person’s weight. One can of soda usually consists of 130 to 180 calories, which is over 10 percent of one’s daily requirement and doesn’t even take into account the impact that sugar has on the body’s metabolism.

If your child is a fizzy drink addict, try cutting out one can per day at the beginning and replace it with water or sugar-free juice. Eventually, work up to a soda-free lifestyle.

3. Get Moving

Teens typically need about 60 minutes of physical activity per day for general health. That doesn’t mean they need to do all 60 minutes at once or spend the entire hour sprinting. It simply means the body needs to be routinely moving throughout the day.

So, consider having your son or daughter put the car ride to school aside and replace it with walking or biking to classes most days. Or alternatively, instead of plopping down in front of the television after school, they could develop a new habit of shooting a few hoops in the driveway, jumping rope or walking to the mall with friends.

4. Eat Breakfast

Thin people eat breakfast. It gives one’s metabolism a major boost in the morning, meaning the effort will help to burn more calories throughout the day. It also assists in stopping your teen from loading up on empty calories at lunch or during a mid-morning sugar crash.

Instead, opt for healthy breakfast like a bowl of cereal, a bit of fruit and bread or some granola sprinkled over yogurt.

5. The next time you head out grocery shopping, ask your teen to join you. Talk together about avoiding the pizzas and chips, and instead purchase healthy snacks like baby carrots, grapes, cherry tomatoes, pretzels, string cheese, hummus or other easy after-school snacks that are tasty, but healthy.

The truth is, you don’t need an instant-fix teen weight loss instead, you need a sustained lifestyle change. That means snacking smart, eating breakfast, getting moving and cutting out empty liquid calories

Weight Loss Diet Before The Holidays

The Banana Diet

banana egg diet

The banana diet is 1 of the best and easiest ways to help boost your weight loss efforts. It appears there are many versions of this diet… and I also have a version of this diet. A lot of the other versions of this diet just seem plain silly and not very practical.

Here’s an easy to use version that will give you slow, steady weight loss. This is not an extreme diet like you may think.

You may think that the banana diet consists of eating just bananas all day. Wrong! Obviously that isn’t very practical or smart. There is just 1 main rule to this diet and another general rule…

Rule #1: Eat 1-2 bananas before each meal… minimum of 3 times a day.

Very simple, huh? Not much to think about. If you eat, you’re going to eat 1-2 bananas before your meal. Practical, easy, healthy, and not much to remember.

Before breakfast, eat 2 bananas. Before lunch, eat 2 bananas. Before dinner, eat 1 banana. So you eat 5 total bananas a day.

Rule #2: Eat whatever you want for meals.

This rule is simple… eat whatever you want, just as long as you eat 2 bananas before breakfast, 2 bananas before lunch, and 1 banana before dinner. Obviously eating healthier than normal would help your weight loss efforts even more, but it’s not 100% necessary.

Bonus Rule: You can replace 1 banana with an apple before breakfast and lunch.

As mentioned, you can replace a banana with an apple before breakfast and lunch. This is to help relieve possible boredom. Nothing more.

I honestly don’t know how much weight you will lose on this or any other diets that use bananas, however you should notice a steady weight loss. It won’t be extremely fast, so if that’s what you’re looking for… forget the banana diet.

If you’re SICK and TIRED of getting the same old boring weight loss advice… you know, like “Eat more fruits and vegetables, drink 8 glasses of water, jog, and blah blah blah”, then…

Banana Diet - 5 Tips For Success

The Banana Diet is achieving global success. Could this simple diet be the weight loss system you’re looking for? Achieve success with our five tips.

Breakfast bananas are the heart of the Banana Diet. Basically, that’s the entire diet: eat raw bananas and sip water for breakfast.

1. Forget it’s a “diet”

Essentially with the Banana Diet, you can eat normally for the rest of the day. This is what makes the diet so appealing: no weighing, no counting calories, no special foods.

The Banana Diet has no special requirements, and for people new to this simple weight loss system, it’s a little TOO simple. They want to complicate things.

Just forget that it’s a diet and eat your bananas for breakfast.

2. Eat your bananas and sip water for breakfast

If you’re not used to eating breakfast, the Banana Diet does require an adjustment. However, as with everything on this diet, it’s easy. If you don’t have time to eat breakfast, put your bananas into a bag, and eat them in the car, or when you arrive at work.

Don’t forget to sip room temperature water as you eat your breakfast bananas.

You’ll find that two bananas leave you feeling quite full, and the full feeling lasts until lunch. If you’re used to a snack at mid morning, you’ll find that you’re just not hungry when snack time arrives.

3. Eat normally for lunch and dinner

There are no special requirements for your other meals, just eat as you normally would.

4. Eat dinner before 8PM

There’s no food after 8PM, so if you’re working late, take time to eat before 8PM comes around. You shouldn’t eat anything else until you eat breakfast tomorrow.

5. Go to bed by midnight

You’ll look forward to bedtime on this diet; bananas relax you, and you won’t have any trouble falling to sleep at all.

So there you have five tips for success on the Banana Diet.
